The WEC really isn't in a great spot right now. I'm hopeful that LMDH is going to bring a bunch of new manufacturers into the series but my gut is saying we are probably going to end up with two different sets of manufacturers, one group running IMSA the others WEC, similar to what we have right now with GTE. It's really just a matter of time until GTE dies and is replaced with GT3.

Sportscar racing was on top of the world in 2015, crazy to see it come crashing down so fast.

Yeah I mean this is a little disingenuous, methinks. He’s upset about their inability (potential because of the ACO) to get in on the LMH action. But yeah, it also doesn’t make a ton of sense financially to run this very strange event calendar in full unless your program has a future, and I don’t think anyone really thought the existing LMP1s had a *real* future in the realm of LMH/LMDh anyway, despite what Tomlinson says here.

Well, it’s the WEC for saying that privateer LMP1's can be just as fast as the factory LMP1 Hybrids (and then going not really) and following it up by coming out with Hypercars(!) to get more OEM’s onboard, then saying well LMP1's can also compete, then seeing that IMSA wanted to continue the success of the DPi’s and get more OEM’s onboard which then triggered more interest for the OEM’s than Hypercars, because money, so the ACO then jumps in and says the LMDH’s can run at Le Mans and be competitive with the Hypercars and the LMP1's and then COVID happens out of left fucking field and takes a big ol shit on every thing so now you got only 1 OEM going for a Hypercar (Toyota plus SCG possibly), a few privateers wanting to just purchase LMP1's, and every other OEM debating on going for the LMDH or GTE or just not racing at all.

It was great. You had VAG dumping hundreds of millions into its various groups over in europe and you had GM dumping hundreds of millions into P&M in the Americas.

Hot take: the only way for sustainability in racing on the constructor side going forward is to apply the DPi formula to everything. Do away with the arbitrary limit on approved chassis suppliers for homologation and set out relevant engine regs that appease the OEMs, somewhere inbetween the LMP1-L and Oreca 05/Rebellion R-One rulesets. If the GT Association can make good headway with new Mother Chassis regs for 2023+ (presumably with Dome again), there’s no reason why this can’t work for sportscars and/or lower cost touring cars. Heck you can even go the way of Trans Am if you dont mind the flack you’d get for archaic DP chassis design.

JAF GT300 has its merits , but you quickly risk getting another ATS-V.R mess on your hands. Tbh I would probably be ok losing the top echelon of prototypes if it means the current sportscars can live on.

Just don’t go throwing “World Championship” into your regs and you can fly under the FIA.

This is, more or less, what I was trying to say , yes.
